Memory Scrapbooking

Tuesday 14 April 2020

 Memory Scrapbooking

With all this extra time on my hands I have finally got around to starting a task I have had on my to do list for years! This would be my holiday memory scrapbook.

Over the past 6 years whenever I went on holiday I took photos and kept hold of tickets to sights, boarding passes, metro ickets etc. This was all with the intention of putting them together creatively into a scrapbook so that I could look back on my favourite memories from my various trips.
Included in this post are some pictures of my progress so far with this scrapbook. I've already managed to fill nearly one book because I just cannot choose between photos!

What I have enjoyed the most about this project at this time is that it has given me a creative outlet and something to focus on amidst all the chaos going on in the world currently.

I've really let my creative juices flow and created things out of coloured paper like mini planes, mini suitcases and flags for the different countries all to stick onto the pages with the photos and tickets to make them stand out.

I love the idea of having a book like this put together that I can pull out and have a look at over the years.

I still have a long way to go with this project but I am grateful to have something that I can use as a creative outlet where I can look back over my favourite memories and happier times while new memories currently cannot be made.

What have you been doing with your extra time during this lockdown? What do you enjoy doing that brings out your creativity?

Thanks for Reading!

A New Hobby

Thursday 2 November 2017

I have been posting less and less on the blog front of late and here is the reason why.

I have started a new writing hobby in the form of poetry. While I have always been a fan of writing and expression poetry had not really been on my radar until this year.

I had read a copy of Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey and fell in love with the art form. The fact that you can express so much meaning in so few words and have people that relate is amazing.

Prague: The Charles Bridge

Tuesday 2 May 2017

While in Prague one of the sights that you have to go see if the Charles Bridge, it is a stunning piece of architecture. While pretty much all of the architecture in Prague is stunning this bridge can not be beat in terms of beauty and history! The bridge crosses the Vlatava river in between the new town and the old town.

Nice: Day Out in Monaco

Friday 28 October 2016

Another of our many day trips out was to Monaco, this was something we had booked in advance as part of a guided tour.
They took us to Monaco ville and Monte Carlo, no sights were included but we had time in the tour to go visit them.

5 Blog Goals

Friday 2 September 2016

I have been using my blog alot more reccently and I'm really enjoying creating posts and having people actually read and comment on them. I thought i would share with you some of my goals for my blog hopefully within the next year:

1. Reach 50 followers. (im currently at 14 on blogger and 21 on google+  which amazes me that even this many people want to follow and read my ramblings.)

2. Create better quality photographs for blog posts. I can be abit lazy with photos and just upload them as they are. Id like to start editing them abit more and make them a higher quality.

Where Have I Been?

Thursday 21 July 2016

Things have been absolutely manic as of late with a lot of personal issues cropping up that have just left me feeling drained, down and frankly not wanting to do anything at all.

Amidst this drama I have visited Aberystwyth for a week! (Hence the artsy photos above.)
Why you may ask? I agreed with my work that I would complete a distance learning degree. It has been a long time coming but I have finally completed the first week of the study school.

New York: Times Square

Sunday 22 May 2016

My final New York post - this means I'm going to have to accept that the holiday is over. Even though it technically has been for months 'inserts sad face emoji'
This blog is all dedicated to Times Square. Of course when you go to New York this is one of the first sites you will go see.

New York: The Met Museum

Wednesday 18 May 2016

One of the other sites that I really wanted to visit whilst in New York was the Metropolitan Museum of art.
I will admit this was mainly from watching Gossip Girl over and over and wanting to get a picture on the steps of the met.
Once we arrived there the building was magnificent! It's just a donation to get a ticket and inside it is absolutely massive, like a maze.
The section we browsed around was on the Egyptians there were so many artefacts! Mummies, sarcophaguses, Egyptian jewellery and even a temple.
Everything on display seemed so grand and magnificent and they had a wonderful room where one wall was basically just a window, then there was a water feature. It was blocked off here I think they were setting it up for a wedding reception.
I imagine it would make a stunning venue!
Unfortunately as all we had done that day was walk round everybody was overly tired by the time we got to the met. Which meant we only went round the section with artefacts from Ancient Egypt and then went back to the hotel.
I would love to go back and peruse some of the other exhibits, I don't think you'd get round all of it even if you spent a whole day in there!
I've included some of the photos I snapped above and below. This includes the mandatory picture on the steps of the met Gossip Girl style.
Have you visited the met Museum or New York in general? What did you enjoy the most?

Thanks for Reading!

New York: The Plaza and The Rockefeller

Tuesday 19 April 2016

While wandering around New York we saw some iconic building from history and media. The two I got rather excited about were: The Rockefeller and The Plaza.

Unfortunately the Rockefeller was closed when we walked past but I did get a lovely photo of it at night all lit up. They even still had some Christmas trees out front as it was February at the time.

New York: The Empire State Building

Saturday 27 February 2016

The Empire State Building was at the top of my list of things to see when I visited New York. If not for the countless movies it has been in, for that scene in Gossip Girl where Chuck waits for Blair at the top to declare his love (I'm a big Gossip Girl fan.)

On the first day we were in New York we decided to go to the top of the Empire State at night. It's open till 2am and costs $32.

It wasn't a far walk from our hotel and it was very easy to find from Times Square. I had been feeling unwell from the moment we arrived and I felt I could have gone back to the hotel room for the evening.

As it was the one thing I was determined to see I persevered and forced myself to the top. I am glad that I did as if I had let it get the better of me I would have missed out on some beautiful views.

I would recommend going up the building at night as you get a fantastic view of the city all lit up- it is absolutely stunning!

There is an outside viewing platform and an inside one, the best photos come from the outside platform- be warned though it is very windy up there!

We tried and tried to get pictures on the outside platform but it was so windy it was practically impossible. This might have been because it was February and particularly colder than later in the year maybe.

This was my favourite sight of the holiday I could have stayed up there looking at the views all evening!

It started the holiday of with a bit of magic and glamour and I could not think of a better beginning to our New York adventure.

I don't think I really need to say it but if you're heading to New York soon this is a must see.

Drawing for Beginners Week Two - The Skeleton

Thursday 15 October 2015

It was Drawing for Beginners lesson 2 this week! The above skeleton is what we had to draw. This course says for Beginners but both lessons so far I think have been giving us rather difficult things to draw, it's almost like dropping you in at the deep end and seeing if you can swim.

You can see my blog on week one here.

This was the outcome of my drawing I'm feeling quite proud of it and the art teacher even asked if I had been to art school or done any art before (which I have not) so I took that as a huge compliment!

It's one of those classes where the teacher walks around the room giving you helpful hints. I learnt alot about shading and how to draw ribs (this is incredibly difficult if you can do this with ease I tip my hat to you)

Overall I feel I made much more progress this week and am looking forward to see what the challenge is next lesson!

My Week in Photos 3

Wednesday 14 October 2015

Thought I'd do a my week in photo's blog- I know I don't do these every week and just whenever I feel like it I'm still counting these as week 3. It's definitely been a busy one since last wednesday!
Above is my drawing of a skeleton from this weeks 'Drawing For Beginners' class. I will blog about this shortly but in the meantime you can see last weeks blog here.
